Oatmeal Cookies

These are tasty cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter (no substitutes), softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 cups quick cooking oats
  • 1 cup Grape-Nuts cereal (I used chex)
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • peanut butter and/or chocolate chips

In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugars. Beat in egg and vanilla. Combine flour, oats, cereal, baking soda and baking powder; gradually add to creamed mixture. Roll into 3/4-in. balls. Place 2 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets; flatten with a fork. Bake at 375 degrees F for 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool for 3 minutes before removing to wire racks.

  1. Wow! Nice new blog background. And also, I never thought I'd see the day that you posted a recipe calling for grape nuts. : )
Stop making me so hungry with all your posts! How did your pizza turn out the other day?

  2. Yeah, cool background! And, how could you print a recipe that says 'no substitutions'? are you some sort of hypocrite? :) Jk, these sound amazin'!

  3. Did you really smash them down with a fork? I wonder if that would help them cook more evenly.

  4. the pizza was pretty good, except i substituted wheat flour for white and i didn't have any gluten, so it turned out a bit dense...
haha i just copied the recipe from allrecipes, and no i didn't smash them with a fork--my cookies were kinda weird because i used chex instead of grapenuts

  5. Ha ha Becca, I was noticing the same thing! How funny. I think you have to be at least 60 to have grape nuts on hand.

  6. I tried your cookies...complete with Chex. A fun little crunch. Mine turned out a little flat (as usual), but tasty.
